Description
A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe that yields a soft and fluffy loaf.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tsp active dry yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- Activate yeast by warming milk to lukewarm (about 110°F). Mix in yeast and sugar; let sit until bubbly (5-10 minutes).
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
- Combine activated yeast mixture with flour mix, beaten egg, and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Shape risen dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let rise again until puffy (30 minutes).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is not too hot when activating the yeast, as temperatures above 120°F can kill the yeast.
- For a sweeter bread, add a bit more sugar.
