Instructions

  1. Activate yeast by warming milk to lukewarm (about 110°F). Mix in yeast and sugar; let sit until bubbly (5-10 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour and salt.
  3. Combine activated yeast mixture with flour mix, beaten egg, and melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  4. Knead dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place dough in an oiled bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Shape risen dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan. Let rise again until puffy (30 minutes).
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is not too hot when activating the yeast, as temperatures above 120°F can kill the yeast.
