Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, oil, applesauce, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely in the pan.
- Beat softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until fluffy and spreadable.
- Once the cake is cool, spread the cream cheese frosting generously over the top. Slice and enjoy!

- For an extra touch, you can add chopped walnuts or pecans into the batter.
