Description

Delicious homemade pretzels that are soft and golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
  • ⅓ cup baking soda
  • 1 tsp coarse sea salt (plus extra for topping)
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by mixing warm water and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for an hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  5. Punch down the risen dough, divide into 24 pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
  6. Boil water with baking soda in a saucepan. Dip each pretzel bite in the boiling solution for 30 seconds before placing on the baking sheet.
  7. Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • Ensure the water is warm but not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
  • You can add additional toppings such as garlic salt or sesame seeds if desired.
