Description
Delicious homemade pretzels that are soft and golden brown.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F)
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ⅓ cup baking soda
- 1 tsp coarse sea salt (plus extra for topping)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
Instructions
- Activate the yeast by mixing warm water and yeast in a bowl. Let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for an hour.
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Punch down the risen dough, divide into 24 pieces, roll into ropes, and shape into pretzels.
- Boil water with baking soda in a saucepan. Dip each pretzel bite in the boiling solution for 30 seconds before placing on the baking sheet.
- Brush each pretzel with melted butter and sprinkle with coarse sea salt. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- Ensure the water is warm but not too hot to avoid killing the yeast.
- You can add additional toppings such as garlic salt or sesame seeds if desired.
